Make, Play and Take Musical Instruments
Camp I and II
Make Your Own Horn and Toot It!
Dr. Craig Woodson will present a Summer Music Camp (SMC) I for ages
9-11, July 12-15, 2010 and SMC II for ages 12-14 August 16-20, 2010,
where children will make and play their own simple musical
instruments. Organized through Kenston Community Education in
Chagrin Falls, Ohio, for two hours each day children will learn how
to make strings, winds, drums and other percussion based on ideas
from many countries. Each day after making the instruments, children
will learn how to play simple, beginning musical phrases, compose
music and even have a jam session. By the end of the week, parents
will be invited to hear a performance.
Dr. Woodson has been presenting instrument making workshops for over
30 years around the U.S., including trips to Europe, Africa,
Indonesia, and the Middle East. In 2008, he presented a family play
along concert with the Kronos Quartet using his homemade instruments
at Carnegie Hall. He has consulted on musical instruments with
Disney, NASA, the U.S. State Department, and the Rock and Roll Hall
of Fame, including many orchestras nationwide.

COST
Student cost per camp: $80.00 tuition + $15.00 for materials
