Two 14-hour, Saturday workshops in
May, Chagrin Falls, Ohio
Workshop
#1
A.
INTRODUCTION TO DRUM CIRCLES AND AFRICAN DRUMMING
Teachers will learn the basics and benefits of drum circle
facilitation and contrast this with traditional drumming from
specific cultures in Ghana and Guinea, West Africa both for use in
the K-12 classroom. Participants in the drum circle will learn how
to express their own rhythms as a part of a group, in contrast to
performing traditional African drumming, where one plays specific
parts that have interlocking roles as in a family. Instrument making
will help this hands-on process of learning these two distinct
approaches.
May 1 & 8, Saturdays, 8:30-4:30
$200.00 tuition + $50.00 materials, discounts available

INSTRUMENT MAKING FOR SPECIAL NEEDS AND CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Bringing together his work in Iraq, Indonesia and with the Lost Boys
of Sudan (AZ Center), Dr. Woodson demonstrates how making and
playing simple musical instruments can assist with Special Needs

conflict resolution. His approach through the concepts and practices
of music therapy bring immediate, practical solutions for cultural
rehabilitation and difficult interactions in the K-12 classroom.
